"I was able to learn more about those who lead the Meatlumps. Their names are Hraykken, Draykken, and Louis Bender. They are indeed brothers. Together they founded the Meatlumps and shaped their gang into what it is today."
Vani Korr, excerpt of Who are the Meatlumps?[2]

Louis Bender was a male Human criminal who lived on the planet Corellia during the Galactic Civil War. He was a leader of the Meatlumps.

Biography[]

"Hmm...while your in such a destructive mood, I should send you to help my brother, Louis. [...] He's not as good at blowing things up as I am."
Draykken Bender, to a spacer[1]

Louis Bender was the son of Lucien Bender and the brother of Hraykken and Draykken Bender. Lucien Bender was a mad scientist who used to conduct experiments on his own sons. However, prior to the Battle of Yavin, the three young boys managed to escape their abusive father with the help of a mysterious individual who would later become the Meatlump King. This man adopted the three boys and raised them as his own.[1] After Imperial assassins attempted to kill their adopted father, the Bender brothers founded the Meatlumps,[3] a gang of fanatical technology-hating thugs, criminals and terrorists.[4] While the Meatlump King became the ideological and public leader of the Meatlumps, the Bender brothers handled the daily operational details of the gang activities. They were based in a secret hideout located beneath the city of Coronet. It was Draykken Bender who named the Meatlumps after their favorite food.[5] In response, their father Lucien created the Bofa Treat Gang, also named after food.[1]

By the time of the Battle of Yavin, two Imperial officers, Major Tery and Colonel Frost, discovered that the three Meatlump leaders were in fact three brothers. Analyzing the Meatlump attacks against Imperial researchers, Frost and Tery hypothesized that the father of the three brothers could have been himself an Imperial scientist at some point.[6] Later, the reporter Vani Korr of Corellia Times confirmed their conclusion and revealed the filiation of the three brothers in the article Who are the Meatlumps?.[2]

In 1 ABY,[7] Louis Bender planned to attack a delivery depot on the outskirts of the city of Kor Vella. He was working with the Meatlumps lieutenant Voba Duey and a spacer affiliated with the Meatlumps who previously worked with Hraykken and Draykken. However, before the attack could happen, Louis was captured by the infamous Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk. In fact, Lucien Bender had placed a bounty on his three sons. However, he ignored that a much larger bounty was placed on him and his gang. Bossk intended to force Hraykken and Draykken to handle Lucien for him so he could collect the most substantial bounty. Bossk was keeping Louis in custody in a camp near Lucien's bunker when the spacer arrived to rescue Louis Bender. The bounty hunter agreed with freeing the Louis Bender upon Lucien would be killed. The spacer therefore attacked the Bofa Treat Gang and finally killed Lucien Bender in the depths of the bunker. Louis Bender was then freed.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Louis Bender was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[8]

The three Bender brothers — Hraykken, Draykken and Louis — were first mentioned in Vani Korr's article Who are the Meatlumps?, introduced in the game with the "Publish 21", released on August 4, 2005.[9] They were later mentioned in web articles related to the Meatlumps on the Star Wars Galaxies website: the "CorSec Database H-Z", published on June 16, 2006,[3] and "Meatlumps!", published on May 30, 2008,[4] as well as during the events of "Chapter 10: The Search for the Meatlump King",[5] released on June 19, 2008.[10] Finally, the three Bender brothers were added to the game with the "Game Update 10," released on June 2, 2009.[11]

In the "CorSec Database H-Z", the Bender brothers were originally described as the sons of the Meatlump King.[3] However, it was revealed with the Game Update 10 that they were in fact adopted by the Meatlump King after escaping Lucien Bender, their biological father.[1]

Analysis of unused game files added with the "Publish 28" indicated that the three Bender brothers were intended to be named Lempi, Lucien and Hamm, while the father should have been named Andrade.[12] The game's files also contain unused graphical models of Lucien and other Meatlump brothers. These files indicate that Lempi became Draykken Bender, Hamm became Hraykken Bender and Lucien eventually became Louis Bender.[13]

  7. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
