A dog had been the pet of the farmboy Luke Skywalker sometime before he left his home planet of Tatooine aboard the Millennium Falcon[1] in 0 BBY.[2] Skywalker was thinking about the dog as the ship entered hyperspace to travel to the planet Alderaan.[1]

Luke Skywalker's dog was first mentioned in the novelization of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, published in 1976 and written by Alan Dean Foster.[1] It is one of several mentions of real-world animals included in the novel.[3]
