Lykan's funeral commemorated the life of Flight Commander Garl Lykan, a TIE fighter pilot in the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing who was killed in battle[1] in 5 ABY.[2] Gathered in the hangar bay of the 204th's bulk freighter Yadeez, many personnel of the fighter wing attended the funeral, which was held by Lykan's squadron commander, Captain Armenauth of the 204th's Squadron.[1]

Per tradition, Armenauth promoted Lieutenant Nord Kandende to the late Lykan's role of flight commander and then gave a final testament for the fallen pilot. As the captain began trailing off on his speech Colonel Soran Keize, the 204th's commanding officer, stepped in and cut off the speech with his own words on Lykan.[1]

The rest of the attendees then spoke amongst one another, initially split into the 204th's six squadrons but mingling short after. Lieutenant Darita sketched out some maneuvers to some newer recruits, including Lykan's favored one,[1] known the Needle.[3] The pilot Fra Raida offered her comrade Lieutenant Yrica Quell a thumb-sized bag of spice, but was turned down. Quell then left the hangar, Keize following to speak to her.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Lykan's funeral appeared in the 2021 novel Victory's Price, the third installment of Alexander Freed's Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 The events of Victory's Price begin after the Cerberon system campaign, and the novel also features the Battle of Jakku at the end of its three main sections. Since Star Wars: Timelines dates both of those conflicts to 5 ABY, the main events of Victory's Price must therefore be set in that year. Furthermore, since Garl Lykan's death and funeral take place before the Battle of Jakku, it must also take place in that year.
