Mackar was a water world[3] located in the Mackar system, a part of the Hewett sector[1] in the New Territories portion of[2] the Mid Rim.[1] It was the homeworld of the Frid, a species of telepathic, fish-like aquatic sentients.[3]

At some point five millennia before the Galactic Civil War,[4] a series of cataclysms occurred on several water worlds throughout the galaxy, including Mackar. The catastrophes left the native inhabitants helpless until a group of spacefaring benefactors arrived and helped relocate the species of the affected worlds to the[3] Mid Rim[5] planet Iskalon, where the latter eventually formed the Iskalonian cultural group.[3]

At some point during the reign of the New Republic, the Shi'ido anthropologist Doctor Hoole was studying the ruins of the Iskalonian homeworlds, including Mackar, to determine the nature of the cataclysms that occurred there and the identity of the Iskalonian benefactors.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Mackar was first mentioned in the article "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Marvel Series," which was authored by Rich Handley and Joe Bongiorno and published in the first issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine[3] on September 1, 2000.[6] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Mackar system, and therefore the planet Mackar, in grid square M-6.[2]

  4. The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Vol. II, p. 119 ("Iskalonian") states that the species constituting the Iskalonian cultural group were brought to Iskalon approximately five millennia before the Galactic Civil War. Since "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Marvel Series" establishes that the relocation of the Iskalonian species was prefaced by the cataclysms on the species' original homeworlds, the cataclysms must also have occurred around that time.
