- "Are your scopes Jedi-issue, sir?"
"Stay focused, Fives." - ―Fives and Anakin Skywalker, during the Battle of Ringo Vinda
Macrobinoculars were a type of electrobinoculars that allowed a user to view distant objects.
Description[]
An electronic optical device, macrobinoculars allowed users to observe from afar, and provided additional information on the distance and altitude of the object under observation.[3] Its heads-up display identified limited data including range and zoom.[4] Some models were fitted with optics equipped with a recording system, allowing users to select pictures to be saved, though macrobinoculars lacked the processors built into electrobinoculars to rework and improve the picture. The MB450 macrobinoculars could also be used at night.[3] Unlike other magnifying devices like monoculars and telescopes, macrobinoulars produced three-dimensional images.[4]
History[]
Macrobinoculars were common among farmers, hunters, and less advanced militaries.[4]
Gungans used Farseein binoculars with a handgrip, oil magnifier lenses, and dials to adjust focus.[4]
Luke Skywalker owned a pair of macrobinoculars on Tatooine, and used them to scan the perimeter of the Lars homestead for dangers.[4] Biggs Darklighter used Skywalker's macrobinoculars to peer into the skies over Tatooine after his friend reported sighting a battle overhead. Darklighter was skeptical, and only saw two starships sitting there.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
Macrobinoculars first appeared in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, the first installment of the Star Wars original trilogy.[6]
During production of the Obi-Wan Kenobi television series, the prop making team made a macrobinocular prop that was used in the series.[7]
