Mamiens were large simian creatures native to Yavin 4.[2] They were solitary creatures, shy and skittish, and difficult to approach.[3] They also possessed a curious and casual demeanor. However, they were very protective of their young and might turn violent if their infant was threatened.[2] Mamiens used to walk on two legs but they could occasionally walk on four.[3] The creatures possessed a wooly hide.[1]

Following the Battle of Yavin, the collector Breac Slaus tasked a group of spacers to hunt and kill an unreasonable number of mamiens.[4]
Behind the scenes[]

Concept art for Star Wars Galaxies.
Mamiens appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[5]
While Empire 15 depicts the Mamien as very ferocious creature that attacks Biggs Darklighter unprovoked, the mamiens in Star Wars Galaxies were rather docile and non-aggressive.
