"The Emperor enjoyed the Mantooine Minuet. Does that help?" - ―Ivak seeks Mara Jade's help
The Mantooine Minuet was a piece of classical dance music.[2] An innocuous piece of music, it passed review of the Imperial Board of Culture outright[3] and was favored by Galactic Emperor Palpatine.[2] Following the Emperor's death in 4 ABY,[4] Emperor's Hand Mara Jade was captured by Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard. Upon interrogation, Jade, who had identified herself as a dancer in the Imperial court, claimed that the Emperor enjoyed the Mantooine Minuet as a way of appearing obtuse about her real role.[1]
Behind the scenes
Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole created the Mantooine Minuet for Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand 3, a comic book published by Dark Horse Comics in 1998.[1] It later received a mention in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, published in 2008.[2] In 2014, the Mantooine Minuet was mentioned in the second installment of Slugthrowers: An Overview of Popular Music and Musicians in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, an article written by Edward M. Erdelac and published on the StarWars.com Blog.[3] In reality, a minuet is a partner dance originating in France.[5]
