"You admire Skywalker?"
"As a general, yes. His record shows he is a great warrior. And I want him to know that it is I who has beaten him."
―Wat Tambor and Mar Tuuk[src]

Mar Tuuk was a male Neimoidian who served as a captain in the Confederacy of Independent Systems' navy. Tuuk was in command of a Confederacy Lucrehulk-class Battleship which headed the blockade of Ryloth during the Clone Wars. The blockade was attacked by a Republic fleet led by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, whom the Neimoidian personally admired and matched wits against, yet was eventually outmatched by when the Jedi broke the blockade over Ryloth and forced Tuuk to abandon his doomed command ship.

"Our blockade is impenetrable. When the Republic attacks, they will get quite a surprise."
―Mar Tuuk, to Wat Tambor — (audio) Listen (file info)[src]

Mar Tuuk was a Neimoidian that served as a captain in the Separatist Navy. When the Separatists invaded the planet Ryloth, Tuuk was placed in command of the Ryloth blockade, commanding a his Lucrehulk-class Battleship to lead the blockade composed of six Munificent-class star frigates.[2]

Mar Tuuk accepts Anakin Skywalker's "surrender."

When Republic forces prepared to break Tuuk's blockade, Tuuk was pleased to learn that his opponent was Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, whom he admired as a great warrior. The first Republic attack came in the form of Blue Squadron, led by Skywalker's Padawan Ahsoka Tano. However, the brash youngster led her squadron into Tuuk's trap, with Tuuk ordering reinforcements to drop out of hyperspace and annihilate the squadron, leaving only a few survivors. Tuuk's forces then began to chase Skywalker's Star Destroyers, dealing damage to the Resolute, critical damage to the Defender, and completely destroying the Redeemer. The defeated Republic forces quickly jumped to hyperspace. Soon after the short confrontation, Emir Wat Tambor, who was leading Separatist forces planetside, contacted Tuuk to congratulate him on his victory but also to warn him not to underestimate his Jedi foe. Tuuk then ordered a droid to find him some more information on Skywalker so he could learn more about him.[2]

When the Defender entered the system all alone, Tuuk was contacted by Skywalker, who offered his surrender in exchange for safe passage of food and medical supplies to the Twi'leks. Tuuk was all to happy to accept and gain the glory of defeating Skywalker, but he soon realized that Skywalker was tricking him when a battle droid told him that there was only one life-form aboard and that all power was being directed to the forward shields. Tuuk watched in horror as the Defender barreled towards his command ship, and after ordering all batteries to target the ship, realized it was no use and abandoned ship. When his ship was taken out by the crippled Republic cruiser, the rest of Skywalker's fleet arrived and tore Tuuk's blockade to shreds, allowing for Republic troops to land on the planet.[2]

Personality and traits[]

"Patience. Patience. Let's see what trickery the Jedi have planned for us."
―Mar Tuuk[src]

Mar Tuuk was a confident tactician that respected a worthy adversary.

Mar Tuuk was a capable tactician and a prepared leader. As he helmed the Separatist's blockade at Ryloth, he was very familiar with his opponent, the Jedi General Anakin Skywalker. He had a respect for the general but was confident that he would prevail. However, ultimately he was tricked by Skywalker and abandoned ship when Skywalker rammed one of his damaged Venator-class Star Destroyers into his command ship.[2]

During the blockade of Ryloth, Tuuk wore a blue and gray robe with a blue hat featuring the Separatist hex icon. He used a pair of data goggles to interface with his ship.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Mar Tuuk first appeared in "Storm Over Ryloth," the nineteenth episode of the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series,[2]which was released on February 27, 2009.[4]

Mar Tuuk was named after Dave Filoni's deceased cat Tuuk.[5]The spinning scope device on Tuuk's data goggles was partly inspired by the mechanical monocle worn by a Ko-Dan fleet officer in the 1984 film The Last Starfighter.[6]

Tuuk was originally going to die aboard his ship, but George Lucas and the show's crew found the character too interesting, so Tuuk was spared. A new scene of him leaving the bridge was added late in the making of the episode "Storm Over Ryloth," and a battle droid stating that Tuuk fled in an escape pod was also added.[6]
