The Marine Corps,[2] with its members known as the Rebel marines or as the Alliance marines, were soldiers of the Alliance to Restore the Republic who fought in the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire.[4] Serving as commandos and operating as a sub-group of Rebel Alliance Special Forces, they were known for being brave and resilient.[6]

A contingent of Rebel Marines,[4] including Privates Arro Basteren and Farsin Kappehl,[6] took part in the assault on the Imperial security complex on the Outer Rim planet of Scarif, clad in camouflage befitting the planet's tropical environment.[4]
