Marrok was a male anooba who was the pet and hunting partner[6] of the Kyuzo bounty hunter Embo. Marrok would accompany Embo during various journeys during the Clone Wars.[3] In 20 BBY,[7] Marrok was present with Embo on the planet Tatooine along with members of the bounty hunter Boba Fett's Krayt's Claw syndicate. Most of the group soon departed for a mission on the planet Quarzite, although Marrok and Embo did not.[8] Later, Marrok, Embo, and several fellow bounty hunters were on the planet Nal Hutta when the leadership of the burgeoning Shadow Collective, namely the rogue Sith Lord Maul, his brother and Sith apprentice Savage Opress, and the Mandalorian Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla, came to ally with members of the Grand Hutt Council. The Hutts refused to cooperate with Shadow Collective and ordered the hunters to attack.[9]

As the battle began, Marrok remained alongside Embo as the Kyuzo fired his bowcaster before charging Maul, who pushed the anooba back with the Force. As their outnumbered opponents decided to flee, the bounty hunters gave chase, with Marrok outpacing them before stopping as the Shadow Collective leadership was surrounded. When a trio of Mandalorian Nite Owls arrived and fired rockets at them, Marrok took cover alongside Embo. The fight continued, and as Embo's associate Sugi found herself at the mercy of Maul's lightsaber, Marrok leapt towards the Sith and knocked him over, jumping on top of him and attempted to bite him. As Embo engaged Opress in hand-to-hand combat, Maul struggled to dislodge Marrok but eventually forced him away. After Embo was thrown to the ground by Opress, the bounty hunters Dengar and Latts Razzi tossed down smoke grenades to allow the hunters to retreat, with Embo limping away and Marrok retrieving Embo's hat.[9]

On the planet Scipio, Marrok took part in chasing Rush Clovis off the planet. He gave Embo a probe droid, chased the trio as they boarded a hover sledge, and retrieved Embo's hat after Embo attacked Anakin Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, and Rush Clovis.[10]

During the third year of the Clone Wars, when Embo once again joined forces with the Krayt's Claw on a mission to the planet Serenno to rescue the Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, Marrok also participated in the mission. The mission was unsuccessful and Marrok and his master were forced to flee with the other bounty hunters.[11] By the time of the Battle of Jakku[1] in 5 ABY,[2] Marrok had died.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Marrok was a close companion to Embo and was capable of assisting him in battle. He would help Embo fight enemies as well as collect his hat if necessary.[9] Marrok had gray fur,[3] yellow eyes, and sharp teeth.[4] While some anoobas had large chin tusks protruding from their lower jaw,[12] Marrok did not.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

Marrok first appeared in "Bounty," an episode of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[8] Marrok's name is a reference to Sir Marrok, a member of the Knights of the Round Table, who was transformed into a wolf in the book The Tale of Sir Marrok by Allen French. Marrok's character design was based off the anooba design from an earlier episode, "Citadel Rescue." Marrok's design featured updated head, ears, and texture. It was drawn by Dave Filoni, an executive producer of the show.[6]
