"Go out to Rori, to the Martano estate. Talk to Tierce Martano and find out what he knows."
Lieutenant Jevan Monsul, to a spacer[1]

The Martano estate was an estate belonging to the wealthy gambler Tierce Martano during the time of the Galactic Civil War. It was located in a mountainous region on Naboo's swamp moon of on Rori and was built in a Classical Naboo style.[1]

History[]

"Those blasted Black Sun dare to trap me in my own vacation estate!"
Tierce Martano, to a spacer[1]

In 1 ABY,[2] a smuggler by the name Cal Handro, an old sabacc friend of Tierce Martano, arrived at the Martano estate after a long walk in the wilderness.[1] The man was tracked down by the Black Sun because he was transporting a new kind of spice.[3] The gambler accepted to give him shelter but the Black Sun soon discovered the presence of Cal Handro at the estate and besieged the building. In order to get rid of the Black Sun, Martano contacted both the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance to negotiate information about the pilot's location. However, before he could get an answer, a fight erupted between the Black Sun henchmen and a group of spacer who were also searching for the missing pilot. Martano was rescued by the spacers who eliminated all Black Sun forces. As the gambler wished to get rid of Handro as soon as possible, he eagerly accepted to give the location of Handro to the spacers.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Martano estate was a location in the 2003 massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies,[1] prior to the game's closure on December 15, 2011.[4] The Martano estate was added to the game with the fourth chapter of the "Secrets of the Syren" quest line, released with the "Publish 21", on August 4, 2005.[5] The "Secrets of the Syren" story arc was removed from the game with the "Chapter 1," published on June 8, 2006, due to the major changes planed for Rori with the introduction of the Battle of Restuss.[6]

  2. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
