At some point between 1 BBY and 4 ABY,[2] the Rebel Alliance[3] engaged the military of the Galactic Empire in the Matacorn campaign of the Galactic Civil War.[1] It shared its name with Matacorn, a nondescript trade world[4] in the Mid Rim's Lambda sector.[5] At one engagement of the campaign, Hesoc,[1] an Alliance pilot[3] flying an X-wing starfighter, eliminated eighteen TIE/LN starfighters and four TIE/sa bombers of the Empire. After that, however, an Imperial interceptor starfighter[1] shot Hesoc down[3] while he was executing a Tallon Roll maneuver.[1]
Hesoc brought his damaged X-wing starfighter back in, but his right leg had been injured to the point where he was fitted with a cybernetic prosthesis. Although such an injury would normally have meant an end to the pilot's flying career, Hesoc nevertheless managed to persuade the chain of command to reinstate him for combat duty.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Matacorn campaign was introduced in "Irrefutable Logic," a short companion narrative included in Heroes & Rogues, a 1995 sourcebook written by Paul Sudlow and Rick Stuart for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1]

""Irrefutable Logic"" — Heroes & Rogues, Hesoc, a pilot of the Rebel Alliance per The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Vol. II, p. 36 ("Hesoc"), flew an X-wing starfighter during the Matacorn campaign. The Essential Guide to Warfare establishes that the Alliance acquired the resources necessary to start the production of X-wing fighters a year before the Battle of Yavin, which translates to 1 BBY per The New Essential Chronology. The latter book also dates the disestablishment of the Alliance to 4 ABY.
