"The Matukai owe them nothing. We defend the light."
―Waran Val, to Elris Florent[1]

The Matukai were a religious group active during the High Republic Era.[1] In 382 BBY,[2] they were represented on the Convocation of the Force by the Kel Dor Waran Val. When an envoy of the Yacombe applied for representation on the Convocation, Val attempted to attack the Yacombe, who they saw as a dark sider. When Elris Florent, the representative of the Disciples of the Whills, suggested that the Convocation should listen to the Yacombe's application as they were owed that at least, Val responded that the Matukai owed the Yacombe nothing, and that they defended the light.[1]
