The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on official information from the Star Wars Legends continuity, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

A Dathomirian Zabrak male was the father of the eventual Sith Lord Darth Maul. They were a member of the Nightbrothers, a group of warriors who operated on[2] the Outer Rim Territories[3] planet Dathomir and were subservient to the Nightsisters coven of the Witches of Dathomir. After Maul's mother,[2] Talzin[4] gave birth to Maul[2] in 54 BBY,[1] and in keeping with tradition which required the death of a Nightbrother after their child's birth, Maul's father was killed within a year of Maul's birth.[2] After Maul was stolen by Talzin's associate, the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, and became his apprentice,[4] he considered the possibility that his parents had spent time searching for him[5] and did not know that his father had died.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"Where is the infant's father?"
"Dead—by tradition."
―Darth Sidious and Kycina, who was previously established to be Maul's mother[2]

Maul's father was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the 2000 novel Star Wars Episode I Journal: Darth Maul, written by Jude Watson. While the father of Maul himself is not mentioned, the book contains references to Maul's parents.[5] Maul's father was first directly mentioned in the 2012 novel Darth Plagueis, written by James Luceno.[2]

Several sources, including Darth Plagueis, suggest that Maul's mother is the witch Kycina.[2] However, the third issue of the Star Wars: Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir comic series, written by Jeremy Barlow[4] and released on July 16, 2014,[6] establishes Talzin as Maul's mother instead.[4] As Son of Dathomir is the more recent source, this article assumes it takes precedence. In Darth Plagueis, upon having been asked by Darth Sidious as to the presence of Maul's father, Kycina responds that the father is dead by tradition.[2] While Kycina herself was retconned, the information regarding Maul's father may still hold true, as it does not conflict with what Son of Dathomir establishes.
