The Mee,[2] also called the mee fish,[3] were a species of scalefish native to the planet Naboo. They lived alongside six other scalefish species in the waters around the city Otoh Gunga in Lake Paonga, and could also be found in the Abyss, where they were preyed upon indiscriminately by the large colo claw fish and opee sea killers that dwelt there.[2] Like most other scalefish, they were hebivorous, but could pose a danger because of their poisonous spine.[1]
The mee fish could also be found on the Outer Rim planet Koboh and on Sakavi Tar, where they had a different temperament. The mee on Koboh were deceptive fish that were daring predators. These fish used their hundreds of small, razor-like teeth to tear apart the small fish they consumed. This presented an additional danger to sentient beings, since the mee would often draw blood with their teeth.[3] In 9 BBY,[4] Sakavian fisherman Skoova Stev caught a mee fish in Prospector's Folly on Koboh, which he subsequently put in the aquarium in the nearby Pyloon's Saloon.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Mee first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. They were first identified in the Star Wars: Legends reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary. They were confirmed to be canon in the reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know.
Mee, along with fellow scalefish doo, ray, faa, see, laa, and tee, appear to be a reference to the real-world musical scale; i.e, "Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do."
