"When I was eighteen, I accompanied my father to the Cadavine sector on a diplomatic mission to Melida/Daan. My mother was on her campaign for the Senate. My father was a senator on Coruscant, and he was working with the Jedi to negotiate the release of the Daan's leader held captive by the Melida."
―Axel Greylark, to Gella Nattai[3]

Melida/Daan was an astronomical object in the Cadavine sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It was inhabited by two groups, the Melida and the Daan. Around 395 BBY, Senator Lexxir Greylark, his son Axel Greylark, and a Jedi Knight traveled to Melida/Daan on a diplomatic mission to negotiate the release of the leader of the Daan, who had been captured by the Melida. However, the Melida set a trap and an explosion went off, injuring Axel and trapping Lexxir beneath rubble. Although Axel attempted to save his father, the Jedi Knight dragged Axel away to save him before the Melida could arrive, leaving Lexxir behind.

Description[]

Melida/Daan was an astronomical object[1] in the Melida/Daan system[4] of the Cadavine sector,[3] located in the Outer Rim Territories and[1] the Trailing Sectors.[2] It lay in grid square P-17 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1]

History[]

"It wasn't until the extraction that we realized it was a trap to show all of Daan's allies what could happen. We were trying to get back to the ship, and there was an explosion. We got separated. I was badly injured."
―Axel Greylark, to Gella Nattai[3]

Axel Greylark (pictured) told Gella Natai about his experience at Melida/Daan.

During the High Republic Era, Melida/Daan was inhabited by two groups, the Melida and the Daan.[3] Around 395 BBY,[5] after the leader of the Daan had been captured by the Melida, Galactic Republic Senator[3] Lexxir Greylark,[6] his[3] human[7] son Axel Greylark, and a Jedi Knight traveled to Melida/Daan on a diplomatic mission to negotiate the release of the Daan's leader. Upon extracting them, the mission team realized it was a trap set by the Melida to show the Daan's allies what could happen. As they tried to return to their ship, an explosion occurred, separating the group.[3]

Axel was badly injured, while Lexxir was trapped beneath rubble. Axel was able to hear his father while attempting to free him from the rubble, but the group was forced to leave because of the arrival of the Melida. Axel refused to leave his father, resulting in the Jedi Knight dragging him back to their ship with her abilities to save him. When Axel tried to turn the ship around, the Jedi Knight again stopped him, after which he passed out from exhaustion. The Knight later told Axel his father's death was the will of the Force and then walked away as if nothing had happened.[3]

Axel, who blamed the Jedi for the death of his father, came to resent them.[3] In 382 BBY,[5] while on the planet E'ronoh, Axel told Jedi Knight Gella Nattai about the mission to Melida/Daan to explain his dislike of the Jedi Order. Later, Axel touched a small scar over his heart that he had received at Melida/Daan, reflecting that although it no longer hurt physically, it served as a reminder that his father had once been real.[3]

Inhabitants[]

Melida/Daan was inhabited by two groups, the Melida and the Daan, with one individual serving as the leader of the Daan. During the High Republic Era, the Melida and Daan were in conflict with one another.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, Melida/Daan was first mentioned in The High Republic: Convergence, a 2022 novel written by Zoraida Córdova as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase II.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Melida/Daan first appeared in Jedi Apprentice: The Defenders of the Dead, a 1999 young readers novel written by Jude Watson as the fifth installment of the Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice series. The novel's cover, which depicts Melida/Daan, was illustrated by Cliff Nielsen.[8]
