Mellcrawlers were a type of creature whose homeworld was the Outer Rim planet Sullust. The creatures were known for giving off a noxious smell that became worse after they died. While on the planet Drongar in the year 20 BBY, the Sullustan reporter Den Dhur found that the smell of Tyrusian red ale was similar to the odor of a mellcrawler that had been dead for a week.
Biology and appearance[edit | edit source]
History[edit | edit source]
Mellcrawlers were native to Sullust, a volcanic planet located in the region of the galaxy known as the Outer Rim Territories. By the year 20 BBY, the Sullustan reporter Den Dhur was familiar with the smell of a mellcrawler that had been dead for a week. During that year, while in the cantina of Republic Mobile Surgical Unit 7 on the planet Drongar, Dhur was reminded of the odor of a mellcrawler that had been dead for a week after smelling the Tyrusian red ale being imbibed by his table companion, an Ugnaught named Rorand Zuzz. The Sullustan reporter remembered finding the smell of a dead mellcrawler to be quite unpleasant.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The mellcrawler was briefly mentioned in MedStar I: Battle Surgeons, a 2004 Clone Wars novel written by Steve Perry and Michael Reaves as the first part of the MedStar Duology. In 2008, the creature received a small entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, which established that Sullust was the mellcrawler's homeworld. Neither Battle Surgeons nor the encyclopedia gave any information on the mellcrawler's appearance or level of sentience.
