A hyperspace route between the Core World of Metellos and the Unknown Regions planet of Ilum was mapped by hyperspace surveyors thousands of years before the Battle of Yavin. Those surveyors were hired by the Jedi Order, who claimed sovereignty over Ilum, due to the fact Ilum was a major source of kyber crystals, used in the construction of Jedi lightsabers.
