A micro-circuit welder was a type of welding tool that consisted of a brown base with a bronze-colored stand mounted on it that ended in a stylus rest with a stylus attached to it with a curled wire. Beside the stand, a green and orange disc-shaped energizer and stylus cleaner was mounted on the base.[1] In 32 BBY,[2] the enslaved human Shmi Skywalker had a micro-circuit welder on the workstation in her home[3] in Slave Quarters Row in the city of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine[1] when her son Anakin Skywalker said his farewells to her before leaving Tatooine.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
A micro-circuit welder appeared in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace,[3] which was released on May 19, 1999.[4] In the current Star Wars canon, the tool was identified in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.[5] The name for the tool originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first used in the reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, written by David West Reynolds[6] and released on May 26, 1999.[7]
