Micro Machines was the primary toy line was manufactured by Galoob. In 1996, several Micro Machines sets were published as part of the Shadows of the Empire multimedia project.

Galoob planned to produce figues of the story characters (both original and new) and six vehicles. In the spring of 1996 (according to projections) 100,000 units were released under the "Micro Machines" brand.[2]
The Hong Kong-based engineering staff in Hong Kong received design sketches and other references from Lucasfilm, and handcrafted inch-tall figures out of casting resins. These "first models" had customised color as in that early stage the color schemes were not finalized. After approval, tooling models with corrections and even more details were made, 3 times larger. A pantograph reducing device was used off these larger figures to produce the final smaller products.[2]
The first three sets of the series included a Shadows of the Empire minicomic as a bonus.
