Missile cruiser was a term used to describe ships belonging to one of the myriad cruiser classes whose primary armament consisted of missile launchers rather than energy weapons or along side them.
History[]
Well known classes in the missile cruiser role included the purpose-built Broadside-class cruiser kdb-1 and the modified Marauder-class corvette.[1] Some variants of both the Consular-class space cruiser[2] and the Galactic Alliance frigate[3] were modified to serve as missile cruisers.
