Before the Invasion of Naboo, the Jedi High Council sent Master Sifo-Dyas on a mission to resolve a tribal dispute on the planet Felucia. Unbeknownst to the Council, Sifo-Dyas had been sent on a secret mission tp Oba Diah to negotiate with the Pyke Syndicate by Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum. Sifo-Dyas, accompanied by the Chancellor's aide Silman, departed the negotiations for Felucia, but was assassinated by the Pykes on the request of a man they knew as "Tyranus",[1] secretly the former Jedi Count Dooku, who had, unbeknownst to the Order, fallen to the dark side and become a Sith Lord and the apprentice of the Dark Lord Darth Sidious,[4] publicly Naboo Senator Sheev Palpatine.[5] Dooku and Sidious wished Sifo-Dyas dead in order to take control of the clone army Sifo-Dyas had secretly ordered from the cloners of the remote planet Kamino,[1] as he had foreseen a war coming that would require the Galactic Republic to have an army.[4] Dooku then travelled to Felucia and deceived the tribal elders into thinking that Sifo-Dyas was still alive and that he was another Jedi who had accompanied him. The Sith Lord then faked Sifo-Dyas' death in the conflict, and had his body cremated.[1]
The Jedi Council believed Sifo-Dyas had died on Felucia[1] until the last year of the Clone Wars,[6] when the wreckage of Sifo-Dyas' ship was uncovered on the Oba Diah moon, with his lightsaber still inside — clear proof that he could not have perished on Felucia. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sent to speak with the Pykes, and discovered the true circumstances of Sifo-Dyas' death and that the Sith had been responsible.[1]

- ↑ "The Lost One" places Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas' death as occurring around the same time period as the Invasion of Naboo. As the invasion is dated to the year 32 BBY by sources including Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, this mission likely took place around that date.
