During the Galactic Civil War, and shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Admiral Gial Ackbar of the Alliance to Restore the Republic sent Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 on a mission to the planet Rodia. The goal of the mission was for Skywalker to open a secret smuggling supply line for the Rebel Alliance. The Chekkoo clan, which made weapons and armaments, was a rival of the ruling Chattza clan, which was allied closely with the Galactic Empire. Princess Leia thought that the Chekkoo clan might be willing to help the Rebel Alliance in order to overthrow the Chattza clan.[1]
