- "Join your friends in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, the brand new 5v5 MOBA showdown, and fight against real players!"
- ―Moonton
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, formerly known as Mobile Legends: 5v5 MOBA, is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena mobile video game developed and published by Moonton in November 2016. The game puts two teams of five on opposite sides of the arena, and to take over the opposing sides. While the general gameplay and experiences are free, many aspects of the games do require players to spend real-world money to enjoy, such as the growing collection of Heroes and skins.
On May 4, 2021, the game announced an upcoming collaboration with Star Wars to only select countries. The event added Yoda and Darth Vader as skins only available through gacha mechanics, which lasted from July 21 until August 8 of the same year. In December, the second batch of the collaboration was released, adding Obi-Wan Kenobi as another Hero skin.

General layout of the playable arena.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena. A single match consists of ten players, each controlling a playable character called Heroes, divided into two opposing teams. The players' objective is to defeat the opposing team by battling and slowly taking over more areas of the arena, pushing until the team reaches the opponents' base. It offers both Ranked and Casual online matchmaking against other players worldwide.[5] As of 2024, the game provides 122 playable Heroes for players to choose from.[6] Each Hero is divided into one of the six different unique classes; Tank, Fighter, Assassin, Mage, Marksman, and Support, which help provide various synergies, combos, and win conditions, for a team to win a match.[5]
Currency[]

Various currencies can used to purchase items in the in-game shop.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has three main currencies; Tickets, Battle Points, and Diamonds. Tickets are obtainable through the completion of various in-game quests and events. Battle Points are obtainable through the completion of online matches capped to a limited amount that resets each week. Finally, Diamonds, the game's premium currency only available through purchase with real money. One Diamond equates to a single Ticket, although, the two currencies cannot be added together and are separated between each in-game purchase. Most items sold in the in-game shop are available to be purchased with all three currencies, however, the purchases that could be made with Tickets are limited to specific Heroes and skins.
During limited-time events, the game often adds special currencies to unlock exclusive rewards tied to the specific event, such as the Astroshard during MLBB X Star Wars. The game rewards players with special currency upon the completion of quests and missions tied to the event.[7]
Star Wars content[]

Battle Emotes of Yoda and Darth Vader available during the event.
The first Star Wars event collaboration added Yoda and Darth Vader into the game as skins of pre-existing characters, Cyclops and Argus, respectively;[9] along with other bonus rewards such as Battle Emote, Avatar Border, Recall Effects, and Kill Notification. Most of the Star Wars-themed cosmetic items were obtainable by exchanging the event currency, Astroshards, available from limited in-game quests.[7] However, both character skins were purchasable through gacha mechanics, locking it behind luck-based draws.[9]
The second batch of the Star Wars collaboration brought back the Recall Effects from the first event and added Obi-Wan Kenobi to the game as a new skin for another pre-existing character Alucard, bundled along with a special Battle Emote. Similarly, the skin was only available through the purchase of gacha mechanics.[10]
Development[]
Mobile Legends: 5v5 MOBA[11] is developed and released by Moonton in November 2016[2] for Android[4] and iOS.[1] Not long after its release, the game quickly grew in popularity and was listed as the best competitive game of the year by Google Play.[2] Following a lawsuit made by Riot Games in 2017, the game was removed and readded to digital stores as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, changing its subtitle.[11]
