Mon Calamari Guard

The Mon Calamari Guard,^[4] also known as the Mon Cala Royal Guard,^[5] were the Mon Calamari monarch's personal troops, distinguished from other Mon Calamari troopers by the goggles they wore. They were commanded by Captain Gial Ackbar during the Clone Wars. Traditionally, the monarch fought with their troops, and the Battle of Mon Cala proved to be no exception, with the Mon Calamari Guard charging into the fray ahead of Prince Lee-Char.^[1]

Whilst being interrogated by Chief of Security Ghal Tarpfen aboard Starlight Beacon after being captured by the Galactic Republic during the Battle of Galov, Tempest Runner Lourna Dee speculated that Tarpfen was a former member of the Mon Calamari Royal Guard because of the way she sat. Dee was, however, unaware^[6] that Tarpfen had actually served as a Captain Third Class of the Royal Guard prior to becoming Head of Security on Starlight.^[7]
