Mongworst were a species[2] of vicious and deadly insects found on the planet Geonosis. They were bred for combat by the native Geonosians and made to participate in pit fights for the Geonosians' pleasure.[1] During the First Battle of Geonosis[3] in 22 BBY,[4] tiny, mutant mongworts were being kept in a secure holding pen carved into the rock beneath the Stalgasin hive's Petranaki Arena on Geonosis.[3] The Galactic Empire sterilized Geonosis around 9 BBY.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, mongworst were first mentioned in the 2015 reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know.[5] The creatures originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the 2003 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which was written by Simon Beecroft and Curtis Saxton.[6]
