The Gungan monument where Montrus was hidding before his death.
Prior to the Battle of Yavin, Montrus was a business partner of Borvo, a Hutt crime lord who was based on the planet Naboo. However, they eventually stopped working together.[2] Circa 5 BBY,[1][2] he introduced Niksel Frangee to the Hutt and Frangee subsequently joined Borvo's organization.[2] Frangee was in fact an infiltrated agent of the Corellian Security Force.[3]
Six years later,[4] in 1 ABY,[1] Niksel Frangee was identified as a CorSec detective and assassinated by Borvo's henchmen.[5]. Borvo suspected that Montrus was aware of Frangee's true identity and hired a spacer to assassinate him. The spacer tracked down Montrus to a Gungan monument in the Paitnnu Wetlands, near the site of an Imperial vs. Gungan Battle, and killed him.[2]
Behind the scenes[]

Every possible depictions of Montrus
Montrus was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[6] Because Montrus spawned under the generic "borvo_montrus" template, his appearance was randomized under one of thirty-five possible depictions. However, the scenario clearly identified him as male.[2]
Borvo's ex-business partner was present in the original release of the game, being part of Borvo the Hutt's questline.[7] With the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005,[8] Borvo the Hutt's questline was revamped. While the gameplay of the questline was extensively upgraded, the storyline remained similar. Borvo's ex-business partner was given the name Montrus in the updated questline.[2]

Notes and references[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
