A war was fought between the criminal syndicates the Mourner's Wail Syndicate and the Unbroken Clan after the deaths of the heirs to both of the syndicates. It was believed that the bounty hunter Nakano Lash had killed both, though in reality she had only killed the Mourner's Wail heir, Khamus, after she discovered Khamus intended to kill his lover, Krynthia, who was the heir to the Unbroken Clan and the mother to his unborn child. After she killed Khamus, Lash escaped with Krynthia, though the heir to the Clan died weeks later as she gave birth to her and Khamus' daughter, Cadeliah. Lash went into hiding to care for Cadeliah, and hoped that when she came of age the new heir to the two syndicates would be able to end their war and unite the two.[3]
In 3 ABY,[4] Lash came out of hiding as she was dying as a result of the disease pneumogray and wanted her former protégé, the bounty hunter Beilert Valance, to take up the task of ensuring that Cadeliah was protected until she came of age to end the war.[3] In the end, Mourner's Wail leader Khamdek would be assassinated on the planet Milvayne by the bounty hunter Dengar,[5] and the Unbroken Clan would be destroyed by the bounty hunter IG-88B[6] with help from the clan's defecting leader, Vukorah.[7]
