A Murchason ring stress analyzer[2] was a type of silver-colored stress analyzer that consisted of a tube-shaped body with a spring-shaped protrusion extending from the top. In his home in the city of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine, the enslaved boy Anakin Skywalker kept a Murchason ring stress analyzer on a ledge next to the workbench in his bedroom.[1]

In 32 BBY,[3] Skywalker was using the workbench to build the protocol droid C-3PO, whose head rested on the ledge next to the stress analyzer as Skywalker brought Queen Padmé Amidala and the astromech droid R2-D2 in to his room to show off the protocol droid. When Skywalker later left Tatooine to join the Jedi Order, the stress analyzer was not amongst the possessions he packed to take with him.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

A Murchason ring stress analyzer first appeared in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[1] The device was first named in the current canon in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.[2] The name originated in the 2000 Star Wars Legends reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, which was written by Kristin Lund.[4]
