N'Kata Del Gormo was a Hysalrian who, according to rumor, was one of the early instructors of Yoda, future Grand Master of the Jedi Order. Yoda, who spoke little of his early days,[1] himself began training Jedi as a Jedi Master in 796 BBY.[2] By 32 BBY,[3] Yoda kept a sand sculpture that depicted the Hysalria system within his quarters in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.[1] In that year,[3] upon entering Yoda's quarters, Jedi Master Mace Windu recognized the star system in the sculpture and mentally noted the rumor about N'Kata Del Gormo's tuition of Yoda, though the Grand Master, dismissing the sculpture, used the Force to melt the sand into the form of an Alderaanian rose.[1]

In the current Star Wars canon, N'Kata Del Gormo was first mentioned in the 2024 novel Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss, written by Steven Barnes.[1] Yoda's old Master was mentioned in The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi?, a 2015 young-readers novel written by Adam Gidwitz that retells the events of[4] the 1980 film[5] Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[4] The Glass Abyss does not explicitly connect the two, additionally establishing Del Gormo's tutelage of Yoda to be an in-universe rumor.[1]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, N'Kata Del Gormo was a Hysalrian Jedi Master who instructed Yoda[6] according to an in-universe legend.[7] Del Gormo was created by Chuck Hamilton as part of the backstory in the Hysalrian entry for the "Design An Alien" contest in the Star Wars Galaxy Magazine, receiving an honorable mention in the ninth issue of the magazine[6] on October 1, 1996.[8]
