The NT-242 was a type of sniper rifle. The NT-242 was considered a tank buster by many users and was one of the heaviest longblasters. The NT-242 was powerful at range, and could be modified to have a disruptor shot which could engage vehicles. It could also be modified with a macroscope that allowed for two magnification levels, as well as a power cell that greatly increased the times the blaster could be fired before being required to cool down.[1]
The Dowutin big game hunter and mercenary Grummgar used an NT-242 as a hunting rifle[3] while illegally hunting molsumes on the planet Ithor. While conversing with fellow hunter Nysorly, Grummgar shot a molsume with the rifle when it attempted to attack Nysorly. Ironically, Nysorly shot Grummgar's speeder and nearly killed him in response, having been unaware of the molsume behind her.[2]
