"I call it Nerfsteak Seasonin' 'cause, well, it was originally designed to season nerfsteaks. But pretty soon I discovered that this seasoned salt goes well on just about anythin', from tip-yip to Fritzle Fries."
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[src]

Nerfsteak Seasoning was a type of salt-based seasoning created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs for use with nerf steaks. However, Tuggs discovered that the brown powder went well with just about anything and used it in the recipe for his Nerf Kebabs. In 34 ABY, he included the recipe for the seasoning in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.

Description[]

"If you're making your own, I recommend usin' a quality salt—like the kind you'd find on Crait—as the base."
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[src]

Chef Strono Tuggs used Nerfsteak Seasoning in the recipe for Nerf Kebabs.

Nerfsteak Seasoning was a type of spice mix seasoning created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs. It was a brown powder that used salt as a base and was edible to Artiodacs.[1]

Tuggs initially designed it for use in seasoning nerf steaks but quickly discovered that it went well with just about anything, including tip-yip and Fritzle Fries. He suggested it as a potential seasoning to be used in Kat's Kettle Corn and it was also used as an ingredient in Tuggs' Nerf Kebabs, with the chef hoping that the seasoning and his culinary flair would make the nerf meat in the dish more interesting, as the meat was commonly available and not considered gourmet.[1]

History[]

"True story: I know a Wookiee who won't leave home without a shaker of my Nerfsteak Seasonin' in his bandolier!"
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[src]

In 34 ABY,[2] Tuggs included the recipe for the seasoning in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, in which he recommended that anyone making the seasoning use quality salt—such as that found on[1] the planet[3] Crait—as the base. He also suggested making several batches of the seasoning so that there was always some ready for use. Tuggs claimed in the book that he had recently been craving the seasoning and knew a Wookiee who would not leave home without a shaker of it in his bandolier.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Nerfsteak Seasoning was created as one of the recipes in the 2019 Star Wars cook book, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for Nerfsteak Seasoning combines paprika, salt, brown sugar, ground cumin, granulated garlic, pepper, and crushed dried savory.[1] The concept of nerfsteak seasoning originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was described, but not explicitly named, in the 2009 StarWars.com Hyperspace article "Dining at Dex's," which was written by Gregory Walker.[4]

  2. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook establishes that the in-universe book was published at the same time as when the First Order was searching for the Resistance base on Batuu. As that search occurs in Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire, which is set in 34 ABY according to the reasoning here, the cookbook must have been published in 34 ABY.
