The New Republic Advisory Council was a body that advised the Chief of State of the New Republic and was comprised of senators from the New Republic Senate. The Advisory Council was formed at some point in between the signing of the Bastion Accords and the start of the Yuuzhan Vong War, and sat in an elevated dais before the New Republic Senate.
Overview[]
The Advisory Council contained the Chief of State and the senators from the most politically important sectors of the New Republic. Although there was apparently no set criteria or static roster, it was believed that Corellia, Sullust, and Mon Calamari would always have a seat due to their worlds' strong contributions to the New Republic Defense Force, and Alderaan would always have a seat due to the large public support of the survivors of its destruction.
Under the presidency of Borsk Fey'lya, the Council originally included six Senators, but during the Yuuzhan Vong War, two positions were added for Kuati Senator Viqi Shesh and Rodian Senator Navik (controversial actions, as Shesh's appointment was believed to be a concession to the Kuati, while many considered Navik a war criminal).
Members of the Advisory Council from 25 ABY to 27 ABY:
- Fyor Rodan—Commenor
- Cal Omas—Alderaan
- Chelch Dravvad—Corellia
- Niuk Niuv—Sullust
- Navik—Rodia
- Pwoe—Mon Calamari
- Triebakk—Kashyyyk
- Viqi Shesh—Kuat
The Advisory Council dissolved upon the conquest of Coruscant by the Yuuzhan Vong and the suicide-sacrifice of Borsk Fey'lya. It was reconstituted by Cal Omas, and retained many executive privileges as the Galactic Alliance Advisory Council, but it shared that role with the High Council formed by President Omas.
