The New Republic Era,[16] also known as the era of the New Republic,[12] the age of the New Republic,[17] or the post-Imperial era[18] was the period of time that immediately followed the Imperial Era. It was marked by the restoration of the Old Republic as the democratic New Republic, which was gradually established after the defeat of the fascist Galactic Empire at Endor.[19] A galactic recession that heavily impacted[17] the economy, including fuel prices,[20] and the bounty hunting trade was underway around 9 ABY.[17]
Although the period was mostly an era of peace, the government's lack of vigilance ultimately led to political fragmentation, which in turn permitted the Rise of the First Order.[4] The destruction of the New Republic government at the hands of the First Order's Starkiller Base[14] ended the era—which later kicked off[11] open war between the First Order and Resistance[21]—this began the Age of the Resistance[22] or Era of the Resistance.[23] The conflict ended in victory for the Resistance after the Battle of Exegol[11] and citizen uprisings against the First Order,[24] but it was unclear what new kind of galactic government would emerge from the ashes of war even months after the Resistance victory.[11]
