Nic Whoma was an unsavory Gran gambler.[1] During a night[2] in 22 BBY,[3] the Gran attended the Outlander Club, a nightclub and gambling hall on[4] the planet[5] Coruscant.[4] During Whoma's visit, the bounty hunter Zam Wesell ran into the club trying to escape from the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. When Skywalker separated from his partner to survey the crowd, Whoma was stood with a group of clubgoers,[2] including the Ithorian Ror Ithh.[1] When Skywalker walked near the group again, Whoma and Ithh interacted with two Rodians.[2]

Whoma had orange skin and black eyes.[2] Being a Gran, the gambler added to the interplanetary feel of the club on the night of their visit.[6] Whoma wore gray armor during their visit to the club.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Nic Whoma was created for the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones,[2] which released on May 16, 2002.[7] The character's costume,[8] partially created by special effects artist Nick Dudman,[9] was reused from the character Mawhonic, who appeared in the previous prequel trilogy film, 1999's Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[8] The Outlander Club scenes, where the character was portrayed by an uncredited extra,[2] were shot on July 17, 2000 at Fox Studios, Sydney.[10] Prior to the release of Episode II, the character made its first appearance[11] on April 17, 2002,[12] with the release of the first issue of the Dark Horse Comics adaptation of the film. The issue was written by Henry Gilroy and illustrated by Jan Duursema.[11]

The character's name was first mentioned in an image in the May 2, 2003 StarWars.com web article "Cantina Roll-Call: Shedding Light on Some Alien Aliases", where it was applied to an image of Mawhonic.[13] The name was first tied to the character appearing in Episode II through the StarWars.com Image Attack feature on November 6, 2003.[1] Whoma's name, anagrammed from Mawhonic, is a tribute to the character.[8]
