Nogard was created by Nick Maley.
- "This is Nogard… the lost dragon from [sic]Degobah… which I designed for The Empire Strikes Back, but was never used"
- ―Nick Maley
Nogard was the name given to a creature concept model created by creatures effects artist Nick Maley for[1] the 1980 original trilogy film,[2] Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. According to Maley the creature, which he describes as a lost dragon from Dagobah,[1] never made it into the film due to an unprepared presentation to director George Lucas.[3] The model of the creature depicted it as a bumpy skinned quadruped with bulging eyes and a dewlap-like feature under its chin. In 2015, the model still existed but was in a state of decomposition;[4] however, in 2021 Maley shared photos of a restored or replicated model with turquoise and purple skin.[1]
