Northern Mustafarians were one of the two species of Mustafarian.[1]
Description[]
Northern Mustafarians were tall (measuring 2.3 meters), slender arthropods genetically similar to southern Mustafarians but more vulnerable to damage. They were bipedal, humanoid, with long snouts resembling[1] those of the Kubaz.[5][6] Northern Mustafarians were not as stocky and strong as Southern Mustafarians.[7] They had keen, faceted eyes that help detect flaws in ore and machinery. Their tough exoskeletons and leathery blaster-resistant skin allowed them to naturally withstand extreme heat, but were not as resistant to temperatures as their Southern counterparts.[7][5] Northern Mustafarians typically wore armor and protective gear when outside their underground shelters or while working around the lava of their volcanic habitat. Though capable of surviving briefly without such gear, they rarely put this resilience to the test.[4][5][4]
Behavior[]
Northern Mustafarians often served as guards and expert Lava flea riders, using these creatures for fast surface travel. Many worked alongside southern Mustafarians in mining, cooperating to harvest scarce resources. Generally non-aggressive and insular, they focused on survival and technological advancement with little interest in off-worlders. They modified imported technology to withstand Mustafar's harsh environment and prefer kinetic or concussive weapons, which are heavier and more durable than typical energy weapons. Sentinels and workers used specialized gear, and many adopt cybernetic enhancements to aid tasks or replace lost limbs, limited mainly by cost. Politically, they organized by cavern-based communities, live mostly separated by region, and tolerate outside interference if it aided their survival.[5]
History[]
The Northern Mustafarians were one of the two subspecies of Mustafarians which evolved separately in underground caves.[7] Centuries before the Clone Wars, northern Mustafarians made deals with the Techno Union to mine lava streams in exchange for mining droids and heavy-duty speeders.[5][7] During the Clone Wars, Mustafar was a manufacturing site for Separatist droid armies and a fortified retreat, though fighting largely bypassed the planet. The Mustafarians joined the Separatists mainly to secure contracts and remained mostly unaffected after the war. Under the Galactic Empire, Imperial forces kept a significant presence above Mustafar. Few Mustafarians know the true purpose of this, and most avoid questioning Imperial actions or the fate of Force sensitives sent there.[5] An exception to this was The Battle of Fortress Vader, when an army of Mustafarians including Northern Mustafarians, led by the Southern Mustafarian Father Kkkt rose up to save what was left of their homeworld after Darth Vader caused the planet to scream as he built his castle, Fortress Vader. During the battle, Vader proved a challenge to the Mustafarians, but Kkkt and the other chiefs used the Force to flood the battlefield with lava.[8]
