"Droids!"
―Nub and trooper Droidbait[src]

"Nub," an acronym that stood for "Non-Useful Body," was the nickname of a rookie clone trooper who served in the Republic's Grand Army. In 22 BBY, during the Clone Wars, Nub was stationed at a Republic listening post on the Rishi moon. Along with other rookie clone troopers, Nub maintained the listening post to warn the Galactic Republic of any impending Separatist attacks near Rishi. When Clone Sergeant O'Niner, the station's commanding officer, lost contact with deck officer CT-327, he ordered Nub and trooper Droidbait to find CT-327. The clones, however, were unaware that the station itself was under attack by Separatist commando droids. The droids ambushed and killed Nub and Droidbait by the station's entrance.

Nub responds to orders to find CT-327

The rookie clone trooper Nub, whose nickname was an acronym that stood for "Non-Useful Body,"[4] served in the Galactic Republic's Grand Army during the Clone Wars.[3] In 22 BBY,[2] Nub, along with rookie clone troopers Fives and Droidbait,[4] was assigned to Rishi Station, a Republic listening post located on the moon of Rishi. Under the command of Clone Sergeant O'Niner, Nub and the other rookie troopers monitored nearby star systems and were tasked with warning the Republic of any Separatist attacks. Unbeknownst to the clone troopers, the Separatist General Grievous planned to attack the nearby planet Kamino.[3]

Knowing that the clones at Rishi Station would detect the attack, Grievous deployed several commando droids to capture the Rishi listening post. Inside the station, O'Niner lost contact with deck officer CT-327, who was patrolling outside the listening post. Unaware that the commando droids had killed CT-327, O'Niner ordered Nub and Droidbait to find the missing trooper. However, after the two clones opened the listening post's blast door entrance, the commando droids revealed themselves and attacked Nub and Droidbait, killing them. The commando droids gained control of the facility, although the surviving rookie clone troopers—Fives, Echo, and Hevy—retook the base with the help of Clone Commander Cody and Clone Captain Rex.[3]

Personality and traits

As a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Nub stood[3] at 1.83 meters in height.[1] Nub wore sleek white Phase I clone armor. After O'Niner ordered Nub and Droidbait to find CT-327, Nub obeyed the order, although the decision cost him his life.[3]

Behind the scenes

Nub first appeared as an unnamed clone in "Rookies," the fifth episode in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' first season, which aired on October 24, 2008. The episode's accompanying episode guide gave Nub his acronymic name.[4] Nub later received a short entry in 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia and appeared in the "Rookies" tie-in novel, The Clone Wars: Defenders of the Republic, which was released on October 7, 2010. In Defenders of the Republic, Nub is referred to as "NUB."
