This article is about a B1-series battle droid who fought in the Battle of Ryloth. You may be looking for O.M.5, a B1-series battle droid who served in the Second Battle of Geonosis.

"There is a gunship blocking our way. OM-5, OM-7, go check it out."
"Roger, roger."
―An OOM command battle droid, giving orders to OM-5 and OM-7[2]

OM-5 was a B1-series battle droid who served in the droid army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. In 22 BBY, the battle droid participated in the Confederacy's invasion of the planet Ryloth, where he and fellow B1 battle droid OM-7 were ordered by an OOM command battle droid to investigate a Galactic Republic Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship that was preventing their assault against the Republic's garrison. The gunship had been engineered to explode, and while inspecting the vessel, the two battle droids were destroyed when it was detonated by a clone trooper, ultimately forcing the droid army to take a different path.

Biography[]

"Careful, it might be full of clones."
"Uh, no clones. Just explosives."
"Explosives?"
―OM-5 and OM-7, while investigating a gunship[2]

OM-5 and OM-7 are sent to investigate a Republic gunship.

A masculine-programmed B1-series battle droid of the B-series battle droid line, OM-5 served in the droid army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars against the Galactic Republic.[2] During the war, in 22 BBY,[1] the Separatist Droid Army, including OM-5, launched an invasion of the planet Ryloth under the direction of Techno Union Foreman Wat Tambor. In their efforts to claim the world, however, OM-5 and the droid forces were opposed by a resistance force of native Twi'leks led by General Cham Syndulla and supported by[2] a small[4] Republic garrison of clone troopers commanded by Jedi General Ima-Gun Di. However, OM-5 and the rest of the droid forces were able to force the Republic garrison to withdraw into the mountains and recuperate while the Confederacy continued to advance on the remaining Republic forces.[2]

While the droid army approached their position, the clone troopers of the garrison—which had been exhausted of much of its resources—loaded their remaining Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship with explosives and positioned it along a mountain pass to redirect the Separatist forces. Noticing the gunship blocking their path, OM-5 and fellow B1-series battle droid OM-7 were ordered by an OOM command battle droid to investigate the vessel. In their investigation, the two battle droids realized that the gunship had been loaded with explosives as a clone trooper remotely detonated the vessel. The resulting explosion destroyed the two droids and caused a mountainous pillar to collapse and block the pass, forcing the droid army to advance through a ravine while the Twi'leks escaped the battle.[2]

Characteristics[]

OM-5 and OM-7 discover explosives in the gunship.

As a B1-series battle droid of the Separatist Droid Army, OM-5 possessed masculine programming[2] and stood 1.93 meters in height and was sixty-five kilograms in weight.[3] The droid had bone-white plating with black sensors. OM-5 complied with orders received from superior officers.[2]

Equipment[]

As common with droids of the B1-series, OM-5 was armed with an E-5 blaster rifle. In addition, the battle droid possessed a comlink booster pack mounted on his back and was capable of communicating[2] through a simple vocabulator.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

OM-5 was introduced in "Supply Lines,"[2] the third episode of the third season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which aired on September 24, 2010. In the episode, OM-5 was voiced by Matthew Wood, who also voiced all other B1-series battle droids in the series.[6]
