"I swear this sacred oath that I shall render unconditional obedience to Emperor Palpatine, to exercise every power in service to the Galactic Empire, and shall, whensoever I am asked, be prepared, as a loyal servant, to surrender my life for this oath."
―Oath of Obedience[src]

The Oath of Obedience was a vow made,[1] for some time between the years 19 and 1 BBY,[2] by riot troopers who were graduating from the Imperial Academy of Yinchorr. The oath consisted of a pledge to give complete allegiance to Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Empire, even to death.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The Oath of Obedience was mentioned in the "Riot Trooper" entry in the in-game databank of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, a LucasArts video game released in 2010.[1]

Notes and references[edit | edit source]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (PS3/Xbox 360 "Riot Trooper" databank entry)
  2. According to The New Essential Chronology, the Galactic Empire was formed in the year 19 BBY. Since the events of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II occur in the year 1 BBY according to the tie-in comic, the oath must have been in use during that time.
