Manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems,[1] Obsidian 1 was the lead TIE/LN starfighter of the Galactic Empire's Obsidian Squadron. Piloted by Civé Rashon, who operated under the call sign "Howlrunner" and the designation OS-72-1, Obsidian 1 at one point flew over Cloud City[2] on the planet Bespin.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Obsidian 1 was created for a card in the 1998 Special Edition Limited expansion set of Decipher, Inc.'s Star Wars Customizable Card Game.[2] Of note, 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia confirms that Civé Rashon was the lead TIE pilot of Obsidian Squadron during[4] 4 ABY's Battle of Endor.[5] However, it was never confirmed if Rashon flew Obsidian 1 during that battle.

Furthermore, in the 2003 massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars Galaxies, Rashon, flying a TIE fighter, was added to the game as a non-player character in Game Update 20 of its The Complete Online Adventures expansion,[6] published in 2011.[7] Rebel Alliance players who requested Tier 7 Duty Missions from certain space stations had a chance to battle elite Imperial pilots. One of these pilots could be Rashon.[6] The "Howlrunner" card for the 2012 TIE Fighter Expansion Pack of Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game also depicts Rashon flying a TIE fighter.[8] As there is no confirmation that Obsidian 1 is Rashon's TIE fighter for either of the aforementioned works, this article avoids linking the fighter to those sources.
