The olbio tree grew leaves upon which ysalamiri fed, and the creatures therefore lived on them most of the time. The forest on Myrkr was full of olbio trees, but the plant seldom survived being transported off-planet or transplanted in any way. Despite this, scientists believed the trees had somehow been transplanted from the planet Mandalore due to the high concentrations of Mandalorian iron found inside them. It was also believed that the ysalamiri owe their unique Force-dampening ability to the great quantity of Mandalorian iron they ingested.[1] Talon Karrde kept a large olbio tree full of ysalamiri in his base on Myrkr.
Behind the scenes[]
Although olbio trees appeared as early as Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire, the tree was not named until much later in Troy Denning's The New Jedi Order: Star by Star.
