"Indeed. Good hunting." - ―Saesee Tiin and Plo Koon
The Old Republic-era[6] also known as the age of the Old Republic[7] was an epic[3] period of time thousands of years before the First Order-Resistance War.[8] The overall era began after the Dawn of the Jedi era[3] and started with the Expansionist Period following the formation of the Old Republic:[9] the Republic was founded by the planets of the Core Worlds during the start of the Old Republic Era, with the Jedi Order emerging as its protector.[3] The Old Republic began around 25,000 BBY and fell to the Sith Empire, which in turn fell in 1,032 BBY when the new Galactic Republic was formed, which lasted until 19 BBY.[10] However, it was during the Old Republic period that a schism occurred amongst the ranks of the Jedi:[3] a rogue Jedi embraced the ways of the dark side of the Force and rejected the ways of the light side, instead forming the Sith[11] during a conflict known as the Hundred-Year Darkness.[12]
The Mandalorian warrior people were also a major faction during the days of the Old Republic.[13] A smaller part of the overall era was the Middle Era of the Old Republic.[2] The end of the time period came with the fall of the Old Republic. During the fall of the Old Republic,[13] the Mandalorians of House Vizsla attacked the Jedi Order on Coruscant[14] and sacked the Jedi Temple,[15] reclaiming the Mandalorian Darksaber in the process.[14] The protocol droid ME-8D9 was believed to have belonged to the Jedi Order during the Old Republic era.[8] A near complete set of Mandalorian rally master armor owned by crime lord Dryden Vos dated back to the Old Republic-era.[6]
