Omisha Joyo was a human member of the Clan of the Toribota from the world of Isde Naha. His nomadic enclave settled on the moon Jedha and in 1 BBY he crossed paths with the Guardians of the Whills Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus and the rebel agents Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor several times in the streets and markets of Jedha City.

He then witnessed Îmwe confront a group of Imperial stormtroopers in a city square shortly before Jedha City was destroyed by the Death Star superweapon.

Biography[]

In the light of the First Star[]

The human Omisha Joyo was a member of nomadic enclave known as the Clan of the Toribota, which hailed from[2] his[3] homeworld of Isde Naha.[1] Astronomical conjecture[2] and the calculations of scientists led the group to believe that the star of the Jedha system was the First Light, the first primitive star seen by their ancestors. This led the clan to settle on the moon Jedha in the system, site of Jedha City.[3]

In 1 BBY,[5] Joyo stood in the streets of Jedha City near the Guardians of the Whills Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus as Îmwe chanted about the Force.[6] Soon after, Joyo passed by the rebel agents Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor in one of the city's markets[7] and then crossed paths with another individual dressed in an identical outfit to him near where Erso first encountered Îmwe in the market.[4]

In the shadow of the Death Star[]

Omisha Joyo witnessed Chirrut Îmwe confront Imperial stormtroopers.

Following an ambush of Imperial forces by the rebel partisans in the city's Tythoni Square,[4] Joyo[3] stood with a group of civilians on the side of a different square where Imperial stormtroopers were questioning various citizens. After the Imperials took Erso and Andor captive, Îmwe entered the square through an arch way behind Joyo and walked past him to confront the stormtroopers. Joyo and the others then scattered as a fight broke out between the Imperials and the Guardian of the Whills.[4]

The Empire then evacuated its forces from Jedha City and destroyed the entire settlement with the Death Star superweapon,[4] which unfortunately the mystical cosmology of the Clan of the Toribota had not forseen.[3]

Personality and traits[]

Omisha Joyo had tan skin.[4]

Equipment[]

Omisha Joyo wore a blue robe and a resonant gray helmet that siphoned the call of the First Light,[2] acting as a reciever to the signal emitted by the primitive light, which was essential to his people.[3] He carried an ancient gray distillery for the purification of potable water in a harness across his chest and also possessed a gray club-like device.[2]

Omisha Joyo first appeared in the 2016 Anthology Series film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.[4] Concept art including Joyo and the other individual wearing the same outfit titled "Jedha Extras version 5A" was drawn for the film by costume concept designer Adam Brockbank.[8] Prior to the film's release, Joyo was first revealed in the film's first full trailer,[9] which was first aired on August 11, 2016.[10] The character was first identified in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[2] Joyo is drawn with orange robes instead of blue in the second issue of the comic adaptation of Rogue One, which was written by Jody Houser, illustrated by Emilio Laiso and Jan Bazaldua, and published on May 3, 2017.[11]
