The Open Hand was a transport starship owned by[1] the Evereni[2] woman Kufa.[1] In 231 BBY,[3] Kufa used it to fly to the planet Rystan, where she met with her cousin,[1] fellow Evereni[2] Marchion Ro. Ro asked about the ship, calling it an "old rust bucket," and Kufa confirmed that she still used it, explaining that it still flew with an operational engine despite being halfway consumed by rust-weevil creatures. She added that they would not be able to use the Open Hand to go to the Shrine, a location on Rystan Ro wished for Kufa to take him to. Instead, the two, along with Ro's Talortai companion Udi Dis, rode creatures called slarga to traverse the Golamaran ice flats to their destination.[1] The ship shared its name with the Path of the Open Hand, a cult that Ro family ancestors had been a part of[4] and whose beliefs Kufa subscribed to.[1]
