"We need you to take part in hit-and-run strikes on their ground forces. Just enough to keep them busy."
Luke Skywalker, to a Rebel spacer[15]

Operation Brassvine was one of the small operations that were led by Luke Skywalker against the increasing activity of the Galactic Empire,[15] in 1 ABY.[16] After the Battle of Yavin, during the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance struggled for the control of several cities in the galaxy. During periods of Rebel occupation of the cities of Anchorhead, Coronet City or Theed, Luke Skywalker landed in these three cities aboard his shuttle Narrow Margin. Accompanied by a group of Rebel commandos, the young man attempted to rally support for the Alliance cause and recruit troops for dangerous missions against the Empire. Skywalker recruited a group of skillful spacers affiliated with the Alliance to hunt down military forces of the Empire. The spacers subsequently traveled in the galaxy and killed five stormtrooper colonels, ten elite sandtroopers, three Imperial corporals, two sergeants and one master sergeant in Imperial-controlled cities.[15] The successful Rebel spacers were later assigned to Operation Weakest Link.[14]

Behind the scenes[]

Operation Brassvine appeared as a quest in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[15] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[17] The quest was added to the game with the "Publish 19," on June 29, 2005.[18]

During periods of Rebel occupation of the cities of Anchorhead, Coronet or Theed, Luke Skywalker would periodically land in these cities. Skywalker would offer players of the Rebel faction up to eight different quests, half of which were designated as "Combatant" quests (to be carried out against Imperial non-player characters), and the other half of which were designated as "Special Forces" quests (to be carried out against Imperial-aligned players). Operation Brassvine was the third of the four Rebel Combatant missions that players received from Luke Skywalker.[15]

  16. 16.0 16.1 The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
