Operation Joystick was a mission carried out by the New Republic to bring the planet Adumar and its military resources into Republic membership.[3]
Prior to the arrival of Red Flight on Adumar, New Republic Intelligence Service sent Tomer Darpen, under the codename NRI1, to investigate and survey the local culture. Darpen gave a detailed report about the planet's lack of planetary government and their different customs. It was also when he requested for famous pilots to be sent as ambassadors while he remained on the world for further preparations.[4]
