Description
Located not far from the gas giant Wynkahthu,[11] the planet Ord Mantell orbited Bright Jewel, a blue star located in the Bright Jewel system, within the Bright Jewel sector of the galaxy's Mid Rim.[1] The world was one of the terminals of the Burke's Trailing smuggler's hyperspace route, which connected it to the moon Jedha.[5] Ord Mantell itself was orbited by at least three moons,[2] one of which was known as Quantxi, or the "Junk Moon of Ord Mantell."[3] The planet's thick clouds glowed with a pink cast when viewed from space and every landmass was dotted with mountain chains, other than the common mountain chains the planet also had large areas of forests and plains, wastelands and large polar regions.[1]
History
- "Lead your fleet to Ord Mantell. Your allies—Black Sun—have a stronghold there."
- ―Mother Talzin, to Darth Maul
In the waning days of the Galactic Republic,[12] Ord Mantell City[9] housed a base of operations for the Black Sun crime syndicate.[12] During the Clone Wars, a battle was fought on the planet between the Shadow Collective, of which the Black Sun was a member, and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[2] During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Ord Mantell came under the control of the Empire and later housed an Imperial deepdock.[10] Prior to the Battle of Hoth,[13] Rebel Alliance general and former smuggler Han Solo had a run-in with a bounty hunter on Ord Mantell.[12]
