"This orga root pie is not only a fun twist on tradition but also a guarantee that such an important ingredient won't get lost in the feast."
―Strono Tuggs, The Life Day Cookbook[1]

Sweet orga root pie was a dessert pie made from the orga root, a Life Day staple on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. Although the orga was known to be served alongside a main course, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs used it in the pie as a variation on a traditional dish, topping the dessert with the bark of a wroshyr tree—for extra spice—along with roasted mickelnuts. At some point after publishing his first cookbook[1] in 34 ABY,[2] Tuggs included a recipe for orga root pie in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook, where he mentioned that the pie would ensure that orga root would not get lost among the Life Day feast, describing it as an "unforgettable dessert."[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Orga root pie was introduced in the 2021 recipe book Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, authored by Marc Sumerak and Jenn Fujikawa. The out-of-universe recipe includes sweet potatoes, evaporated milk, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, an egg yolk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, store-bought pie dough, pecans, and cinnamon sticks for garnishing.[1]

  2. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook establishes that the in-universe book was published at the same time as when the First Order was searching for the Resistance base on Batuu. As that search occurs in Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire, which is set in 34 ABY according to the reasoning here, the cookbook must have been published in 34 ABY.
