The Osseriton system was a star system[1] not far into[3] the Unknown Regions that fell within grid square G-9 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] It contained the penal world Osseriton and shared its name with Osseriton Assemblages, the manufacturer of the Oubliette-class transport.[2] The transport was originally designed for the singular purpose of ferrying criminals from star systems surrounding the Osseriton system to extract resources from the harsh landscape of Osseriton in a hard labor camp[3] in the world's penal colonies.[4]

By 4 ABY,[5] a group of dark side mercenaries known as the Knights of Ren were hired to raid the prison and free its occupants. While doing so, the knights raided the hangars of the prison's security forces and stole one of the prison transports, the Oubliette-class vessel Night Buzzard.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, the Osseriton system was mentioned in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the "The Star Wars Galaxy" article on StarWars.com[1] on June 24, 2025. Both were written by Jason Fry.[6] The system originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned as just "Osseriton" in Force Heretic II: Refugee, the second novel in the Force Heretic trilogy and sixteenth overall in the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order series. The novel was released in 2003 and written by Sean Williams and Shane Dix.[7] It was then first identified as the Osseriton system in the 2008 reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.[8]

  5. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary establishes that the Knights of Ren acquired the Night Buzzard during a raid on Osseriton. Furthermore, Crimson Reign 1 depicts the Night Buzzard in the possession of the Knights while Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas establishes that Solo was frozen in carbonite between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, meaning the events of Crimson Reign 1 must take place between those two dates and that the raid on Osseriton must have occured at some point by 4 ABY.
